Summer Health Tips

Turn Summer Activities into an Investment in Your Health.

Become a Pusher.
Trade in your power mower for a push mower.  And if you have a riding mower, SHAME ON YOU!

Protect Your Largest Organ.
Put sunscreen on your SKIN every morning as a routine (use moisturizers that contain sunscreen).  Notice your body's improved tone with each daily rub down.

Use the 15 Minute Rule.
Profit from the great summer weather.  If you can walk there in 15 minutes or fewer - don't use the car.  This also contributes to the health of the environment.

Buy a Bike.
Or ride the one you have.  You can use your bike to run errands, visit friends, or simply enjoy the robust outdoors.  Plus, those biking shorts are SO sexy.

CO-OPerate.
Join a produce co-op this summer.  It's a great way to get really fresh vegetables and to participate in your community.  And plan meals according to the vegetables that are in each week's bounty.

Fruit it Up.
For this summer's party, make real fruit smoothies.  They will be a hit - and you are helping your guests get their daily servings of fruit. Try this one: two pints of strawberries, one single serving container of nonfat yogurt, a pint of juice (your choice) and a pint of ice.  Garnish with a fresh strawberry.  This doesn't have to be a summer ritual. Use frozen strawberries in winter.

Find a Walking Excuse.
Do errands at lunch that involve walking, whenever possible.  Want ice cream?  A brisk walk to and from the parlor justifies it nicely.  But when you get there, consider the frozen yogurt or sorbet, instead.

Let the Sun Shine.
Go out in the sunshine at lunch (midday) every sunny day (even if it is only for 10-15 minutes).
