One Extra Stop.
If you use mass transportation, start and end your journey to work one subway/bus stop further away. The extra walking will be great for your health and it will only add a few minutes to each end of your commute.
Walk. Don't Ride.
Always use the stairs in your office building when going to and from your office. Stairs are the health club that comes with your job. OK, if you work on the 62nd floor of the Chrysler building, you might want to use the elevator for part of the trip!
Reserved Parking.
Have your own reserved parking space. Choose the space the furthest space from the office and walk briskly to and from the office. Do the same if you park in a garage in the city.
Well Read. Well Bred.
Read a fitness magazine on the ride to/from work. But this will only work if someone else is doing the driving. Tear out pages with tips that you would like to put into action.
Use the 15 Minute Rule.
If you can walk there in 15 minutes or fewer - don't use the car. This also contributes to the health of the environment.
It Ain't Heavy. It's My Briefcase.
Don't carry a heavy briefcase on your shoulder. Lighten the load. Only keep exactly what you need in your briefcase (and this goes for handbags, too!) - and try to trade your old laptop in for a new lighter model.
Wrap Yourself in Tape. The Self Help Kind.
Listen to a self help tape to and from work. It is a great way to use your time and much more interesting than those drive time radio shows.
