Activate Your RAS
Document your goals and read them every day. This makes your goals top of mind. Literally.
There is a part of your brain called the RAS. It acts as a traffic cop, deciding what gets the green light to your conscious mind. Documenting and reading your goals tells your RAS to be on the lookout for things related to your goals.
Here’s how it works.
Remember when you decided you were going to buy that red BMW 3 series and all of a sudden it seemed that every car on the road was a red BMW? The number of red BMWs on the road didn’t actually change, but making that decision alerted your RAS - telling it to be on the lookout for red BMWs.
Your RAS works the same way with your goals. When you remind yourself of your goals, your RAS ensures that your conscious mind focuses on those things that will help you reach them.
So, if you haven’t documented your goals, do so. And remember to read them every day to remind your RAS of what’s important.
