Founder’s Note

Super! Amazing! Incredible! Fantastic! Mahhhvelous!

Those are just a few of the words I heard used to describe the Brand You World Global Telesummit which took place on 8 November. I would add ‘fabulous’ and a few other extremely complimentary words.

Forgive me for being effusive, but I am still on a high from what was certainly a one-of-a-kind event. Can you imagine being coached by John Jantsch, T. Scott Gross, Guy Kawasaki and What Color is Your Parachute’s Dick Bolles … all on the same day … all for free!?!

Whether you attended an entire track (all twelve hours) or you called in for one or two sessions, I’m sure you would agree with me that there was a lot of valuable content delivered with a real energy and sense of optimism.

I would like to acknowledge the tireless work of the BYW Team who worked around the clock for months to make this history-making event happen. Krishna De (Ireland) led the international team with Kirsten Dixson (NH), Walter Akana (GA), Sue Brettell (UK), Susan Guarneri (WI), Megan Fitzgerald (Italy), Bernadette Martin (France), Elodie LeGendre (France), Nancy Branton (MN), Deb Dib (NY), Rui Miguel Coehlo (Portugal), Jason Alba (UT) and Dan Schawbel (MA). I am still wondering how these team members managed to flawlessly execute this event with everything else they have going on – and they had to navigate distance and time zones – not two of them are co-located!  I don’t want to call them sadists, but they actually enjoyed this grueling work – long hours, endless conference calls, emails with 50-people distribution lists, etc. Here are a few comments from the emails I saw passing among team members during and after the event:

“I'm honored to be one of such a giving team of personal brand evangelists. There are too many others to mention here, and everyone worked so hard that I’m afraid to leave someone out, but you can find them on the organizers, speakers, and sponsors pages if you’re curious.”

“Bottom-line? We got a ton of VERY busy people to organize, speak at, and support something that became way bigger and way cooler than any one of us could have done alone. The 24 hours of innovative personal branding information and tools that went out over the airwaves November 8, 2007, is likely the biggest collaborative contribution to the body of knowledge on personal branding, ever.”

“Now that’s something to be proud of -- that body of knowledge will be a go-to source of learning and doing for countless people as soon as the recordings launch next week. Wow, what a feeling!”

“This is an Outstanding Event, delivered by an Outstanding Team!”

If you have ever managed an event, you know exactly what a superhuman feat this was.

If you missed some of the event, you’re in luck. Conference Calls Unlimited, an amazing event sponsor, kindly recorded all 12 sessions in both tracks (that’s 24 hours of programming!) and have made them available as a podcast so you can continue to benefit even though the official Brand You World Day has come and gone. Now instead of listening to Alicia Keys as you head off to work with your iPod, you can get some career advancing tips that you can put to use as soon as you arrive at the office!

Our social cause for the event is Kiva. They are a forward-thinking organization that provides budding entrepreneurs with micro-loans so they can launch their businesses. If you got value from the event or get value from the podcasts, please contribute to Kiva. Strong brands know that doing good is often a part of doing well.

OK, I will stop talking about the event, but just so you have time to check out the great content.

As always, thanks for your comments, input and support.

Best.
William

The Reach Polls

We had our “Are you considering changing Jobs in 2007” poll on the Reach home page for most of the year. It seems that 87% of you were planning to change jobs (or perhaps you already have ;). That seems high – but we know that many people connect with Reach when they are looking to make a move!

Participate in this month’s poll. Here’s the question:

To how many social networking sites do you belong? Let us know on the Reach home page (below the megaphone).
